Giant Kozaky Question...

Yeah, if you see my avatar, you _KNOW_ I've been drooling over this for a while. 8^D

Just to verify something....

I have Kozaky on the field with another monster, and my opponent has Giant Kozaky on the field. My opponent declares an attack on my other monster, I chain Compulsory Evacuation Device to bounce my own Kozaky back to my hand. At this point, does Giant Kozaky self-destruct and we never proceed to the damage calculation step?

I'm just trying to figure out what instances I can get him to nuke himself in and out of chains 8^D

This is how I see it, if you Compulsory Evacuation Device a Kozaky then after Compulsory Evacuation Device has fully resolved, Giant Kozaky will be destroyed. At this point, 2500 life points will be subtracted from your opponent's life points as Effect Damage.

Giant Kozaky will start a new chain I believe where your opponent could activate cards like Divine Wrath to it. However, I could be wrong and it could be like Forced Requisition where it can interupt chains and resolve in the middle of chains. I can see that happening though.

But my first paragraph is my official ruling on your question.

EDIT: I guess I was wrong....Andrew beat me to the punch. At least I tried. So I guess it will be destroyed the moment it's left on the field with no Kozaky to chat with. Ok, makes since. I just thought it would all happen after Evac was over with.

Coolness, I thought so. I just wanted to make sure.... BWAH HA HA HA 8^D

Yeah, as densetsu_x mentioned, the destroying aspect is continuous, but its damage inflictor is chainable, so you could do something to negate the damage, or in my case Barrell it to my opponent 8^D

EDIT: DOH! Silly me! Replay! Even better!

Okay, one more question (hopefully just one more) to help me check my knowledge of continuous effects.

Here's the situation. I have Kozaky and Giant Kozaky on the field. My opponent activates Snatch Steal, targeting my Giant Kozaky. I chain Interdimensional Matter Transporter, targeting my Kozaky.

We resolve the chain in reverse order, so now Kozaky gets bumped into RFP land. Now, does Giant Kozaky's effect activate immediately, meaning he will be destroyed under my control and I take the hit. Or will his effect not activate until after the chain is completed, in which my opponent has snatched my Giant Kozaky only to have it blow up in his face?

Yes, as it dawns on me even more now, because its destruction is a continuous effect. Take the classic example.

Player A activates Uber Trap A
Player B chains Call of the Haunted, targeting Jinzo.

When things resolve, Jinzo's continuous effect activates inbetween the resolution of Chain link 2 and 1, so Uber Trap A gets negated.

...silly software demo....prevented me from thinking earlier 8^D

Giant Kokazy would be continuously checking for the presence of Kokazy. If, during a chain, Kokazy were removed from the field, then Giant Kokazy would immediately sense it and trigger.

Isn't that kind of how effects like King Tiger Wanghu also work? Where, if in a chain a monster were summoned with too low of an attack that KTW would trigger and destroy?

Oh, and it might be important to distinguish between activating and triggering when speaking of Forced Requisition. That tends to cuase a lot of problems with people unfamiliar with the effect.

Well, Shien's Spy requires it to be face up. However in the case of Acid Trap Hole, the monster is flipped up, but this is during the resolution of the effect of Acid Trap Hole, so his destruction effect. At the same time, Acid Trap Hole would flip himself face down again, so it would never happen. Or even if it did, it was face down at the time of destruction, so no "nuke" would occur.

Yeah, remember, effects can't activate themselves during the resolution of an effect (the whole Graceful Charity when you have Exodia pieces example), but it can kick in between the resolution of chain links if they are continuous.

King Tiger Wanghu's effect is a Trigger Effect and otherwise chainable. Giant Kozaky's self-destruction effect is continuous and non-chainable. The Damage Infliction half of the effect is a trigger effect and chainable.

Well, bad example since if he were face down, he wouldn't be targetable by Book of Moon in the first place. But say he was face down on your side of the field. I decide to play Swords of Concealing Light and after you don't respond, I chain Ceasefire (so he would in fact be flipped face up and then face down). Ceasefire resolves first, flipping Giant Kozaky. Between that link and SoCL, Giant Kozaky's Continous effect activates and destroys himself. Swords of Concealing Light then resolves.

At this point a new chain begins as Giant Kozaky's Trigger effect activates, inflicting 2500 to the controller of him when he went boom. At this point you can chain Barrel Behind the Door, Trap of Board Eraser, Divine Wrath, Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment, etc. in order to prevent receiving the damage.
