I passed my L2 Judge test on Sunday at the Iowa Regional. John Danker is the one that tested me and I feel very proud of myself. I could have scored higher than my 88 on the test if I didn't draw a blank on a couple of the questions. We can't remember everything you know. =P

AH HA! Well, they do annoy me sometimes. I can only explain myself so many times without getting angry that everyone doesn't understand what I'm getting at.

Two new L3 and one new L2 judges in a couple weeks at most is fast improvement. I'll have to study up in game mechanics for my L3 test.

Congrats, another fellow level 2 judge among us :)

I'm wondering, did anyone ever get 100% on the level 2 test? I know my 98% was pretty high, but I wonder if anyone ever got a perfect score.

I wanted to get at least a 90 or above on the test. But 88 is still acceptable. Can't always get what you want in life, but I'm just glad I passed. I didn't want to make a repeat with my L1 test and take the L2 test like 3 or 4 times. That was annoying. I tackled the test the best I could under the circumstances of being bugged a little bit while I took the test.

I did, however, draw a blank on a couple of the questions. The last question was something about Level Conversion Lab and Infinite Dismissal. I like, completely forgot about priority on that one like I did the first time. It looked and felt like a low-end L3 question since it was the very last one. Usually the very last question I have found to be a quick blimp of the next level of the test. @_@ Boy I'm going to loath taking that test so much.

I'm young, I can spend the next year or two studying up on game mechanics until I can get myself stablized with my transportation and money. =) Then I'll put money aside to go to Shone Jump Championships and such. I take judging seriously, which probably amounts to a lot of my effort in taking the test and passing.

Congrats, TK. We're surrounded by so many great minds around here, and now UDE recognizes you as one of them too... something we've known for awhile. Again, congratulations!

congrats from me too! i'm going to take the first test soon, but i have to study cause i dont know anything, lol, but im sure it'll be easy...i hope *twitch* congrats though glad to hear it!
 
Congradulations and thank you for working the event directly following your test.

The same questions that tripped you up a bit are the ones that are often missed by many. Those having to do with resoluton of effects in the standby and end phase are things that not many people run across during their judging and just never think about studying up on. It might be a good idea for someon who has time to tackle it to review how that works, it would be a good service to the community.
 
Thanks you guys, I'll study up on the Standby Phase and End Phase mechanics. I'll admit, I'm pretty weak in those areas. I still think that card funcationality in general is an important thing to study up on as much as possible.

I can't give credit to any one individual, but I can give credit to the community of City of Gamers as a whole for helping me pass the test. I've made a promise with Simon Choy to do the best I can and never stop judging. I told him that I never plan to stop judging and passing all the tests. I plan on taking all the tests and each test of each level. I want L5 in all six certification fields.

I don't claim to know everything or try to. I just try to understand as much as I can. =)
 
Much congrats Twiggy! I know this one has plagued you for a bit now, so I know you're doubly happy to have gone to the next stage! Don't feel bad about the score, we all have those questions we blank on at times and I have yet to have a kid ask for an appeal because I only scored X on my test 8^D

As mentioned before, well all know your credibility here through CoG, its nice to see UDE has formal recognition of it too!

And the only ruling I screwed up on in actual floor judging experience was dealing with Dimension Wall. I blanked completely on it when I read the card. Des Wombat was on the Turn Player's field when it was activated. I was like, "huh?" and gave my ruling and asked the players if they'd like to appeal. I was completely way off.

I read the card to reflect Battle Damage to the opponent as Battle Damage. On top of that, when John explained it to me, I was just drawing a blank on the card. @_@

I had a good time at the regional. I work hard at the responsiblities my head judge gives me. I even lost the deck lists that we were going to deck check for Round 7. I was literally looking everywhere. Including in trash cans and such. Turns out a parent picked up the deck lists out in the hall way and put them on a bench. They fell out of my pocket. Happened to my head judge too (which is John Danker).

I'd have to say I'm pretty lucky to work with the judge crew that I have. Each of them have a different set of skills to bring to the event. I've even considered thinking of judging at the SJC Gen Con Indy event in August. I don't think I'll be going though.

Overall, it was a good day to judge. Had a lot of fun. Only bad part was, John was faced with a deck list that almost got a kid DQ'd. I was seriously worried. I didn't do so bad with the penalties this time! XD

A lot of deck list errors though.
 
<smiles /> All I meant it is that while a higher score is definitely desired, people aren't going to evaluate you if you are a 88% Level 2 or a 96% Level 2 judge type thing. You're a Level 2 and that's that.

Yeah, I know how that goes. I can't recall how many times I had to catch myself (and be caught by the head judge) on the mechanics of not being able to activate traps during the damage step as people were trying to Torrential or BTH monsters special summoned by Mystic Tomato. That's the great part about being on a good team of judges, you're always learning something new and challenging each other to the next level.
 
Congrats to you! I think we are going to have to change our motto or something to "The Judge Maker 2000" or something like that!...lol.
 
Don't tell Konami, but I plan on invading them once I gather my army of judges. =)

Down with inconsistancies! Down with illogical game mechanics! Down with their laziness to define terminology!

I'll keep my motto the way it is. =P

What did you rule? That the opponent still got the damage or that he wouldn't?

The answer would be that he wouldn't get damage, because Des Wombat let all damage by card effects become 0, not only effect damage.

Or is it that Dimension Wall cannot be activated because of Des Wombat's effect?

I'm not sure which of the 2 it is -_-'
